Can You Keep a Secret? Author: Sophie Kinsella

Summary:
Meet Emma Corrigan, a young woman with a huge heart, an irrepressible spirit, and a few little secrets: Secrets from her mother:
I lost my virginity in the spare bedroom with Danny Nussbaum while Mum and Dad were downstairs watching Ben-Hur.
Sammy the goldfish in my parents’ kitchen is not the same goldfish that Mum gave me to look after when she and Dad were in Egypt.
Secrets from her boyfriend:
I weigh one hundred and twenty-eight pounds. Not one eighteen, like Connor thinks.
I’ve always thought Connor looks a bit like Ken. As in Barbie and Ken.
From her colleagues:
When Artemis really annoys me, I feed her plant orange juice. (Which is pretty much every day.) It was me who jammed the copier that time. In fact, all the times.
Secrets she wouldn’t share with anyone in the world:
My G-string is hurting me.
I have no idea what NATO stands for. Or even what it is.
Until she spills them all to a handsome stranger on a plane. At least, she thought he was a stranger. But come Monday morning, Emma’s office is abuzz about the arrival of Jack Harper, the company’s elusive CEO. Suddenly Emma is face-to-face with the stranger from the plane, a man who knows every single humiliating detail about her. Things couldn’t possibly get worse—Until they do.

Review:
To start off: this is probably one of the funniest, most romantic book I’ve ever read. Well, maybe not most romantic, but it certainly does a good job.

I wasn’t really sure I wanted to read it. When I started, the writing just seemed weird or maybe I should say, the main character reminded me of a complete air-head and I was really turned off…until a few pages later and she got on the plane. While I had been ‘meh’ on Emma up that point, once she started blurting out her secrets on the plane, which had hit a patch of turbulence, I started to love her. Not because she was sharing her secrets, but because she was funny and she honestly thought she was going to die!

The stranger she’s sharing her precious secrets with turns out to be her boss. The Boss with a capital B. Jack Harper is a mystery man and downright sexy. The things he does are hilarious. He has poor little Emma on her toes throughout the book and their reactions to one another are priceless. In my usual reading, I would rather have the main character end up with the other guy, but for this one, I was rooting for Jack the whole time. I was just waiting and waiting and waiting for something to happen between the two if them and when it finally did, it was bliss. I actually squealed with joy. No really. I did. I squealed several times actually.

I can’t say I loved the whole book though. Emma’s parents and her cousin are sort of cliche. The cousin moves in, becomes the star of the family and then their actual child is left with the bits and pieces. But the cousin gets hers, so in the end that worked out. Emma’s friends, however, are very annoying! I hated Jemima. She was a thoughtless person and was very self-centered. Nothing in this world could make me like her. The other friend, Lissy, is better, but at times she seems smart and then at others, I felt she was dumb-downed. She’s a lawyer for crying out loud!
Emma has her own flaws as well. She doesn’t say what she likes or dislikes. With her boyfriend Connor, she’s lying that she likes this or that, when in reality, she utterly hates it. Emma does this a lot and she has a bunch of people thinking she does or enjoys something when she really doesn’t. It drove me nuts, but I can’t completely blame her.

My Final Thoughts:
I've read plenty of books that made me smile, but Can You Keep a Secret? was warm and light. I was laughing, I think I even cried a little, and most of all, I really connected with the book, I became part of it and I didn't want it to end I wanted to see there relationship blossom, so much for a book that I had put of reading.
