Author: Amber Garr
Pages: 251 pgs
Genre: YA
Release Date: December 7 2011

Summary:

Sometimes following your heart can end up destroying the ones you love.

When seventeen-year-old Eviana Dumahl is faced with the responsibility of an arranged marriage and clan leadership, she is forced to choose between the life required of a mermaid and one of a teenage girl simply infatuated with the wrong guy. Kain, her devoted fiancé would make a wonderful husband except that she’s been in love with Brendan, a shape-shifting Selkie, ever since they were kids. Choosing to abandon her family, her clan, and her life with Kain will have dire consequences far beyond anything she could have imagined.

A war is brewing amongst the clans and Eviana unwittingly becomes a pawn in the intricate schemes of a twisted mastermind. With Brendan’s life on the line, she has no choice but to involve those who she once considered friends. Amidst encountering senseless tragedies and immense loss, Eviana discovers that she is more valuable as a clan leader than anyone ever suspected. Her survival is not only dependent upon the loyalty of her friends, but also on her acceptance of a life that she had so adamantly tried to escape.

Promises is the first book of The Syrenka Series trilogy following Eviana and her friends through the perils of growing up in a discrete world that inherently threatens human society.

First of I would love to give a very special thanks to Amber Garr for sending Kelly & I copies of her books for read and review which was extremely sweet of her,  Amber you totally rock!

My Review:

Well let’s see where can I start reading Promises (Syrenka #1) was a 5 out 5 for me this book was so amazing, I have never read a book about mermaids so this is what intrigued me about Amber’s book I was looking for a different read from my normal Vampire/Werewolves addiction and Promises didn’t disappoint the story kept me so intrigued and glued it was action packed and so eventful. I fell in  love right from the 1st chapter, What was so amazing was you got to know each Characters human form & water creature form like Eviana & Kain the 2 main mermaids or Brendon The Selkie who has to put on his seal skin to transform which is still a little strange in my books …lol  but that to me is why it kept it interesting Amber  really went out there and it WORKED!!!

The references to mythology about sea creatures were great from how they came to be and how humans, perceived them to be. I have heard some references about mermaids in stuff I have come across so it was great to get more in depth info regarding them.

Eviana is a really strong willed character who happens to be a mermaid but she does has a stubborn side and that’s what makes her a strong fighter, and I adored that about her she knew what she wanted and wasn’t going to let anyone or anything stop her from getting it she kicked ass I’m not going to lie this poor girl had to endure a lot her sis and mother made me sick!!!

The romance in Promises is awesome and of course there is you typical YA love triangle poor Eviana has been in love with Brendan since forever  even though it goes against all her family stands for but, as per family obligation’s she has been promised in the hand of marriage to Kain since childhood.  Which in this series turned out to be one of my fave triangles since I was rooting for the guy  #2  Kain, (he’s Jacob via Twilight of some sort’s) which I never go for so for me to do that I shocked myself but Kain, was just so yummy and swoon worthy he’s just plain HOT!!. Brendan was great guy also but I kept being pulled towards Kain,

 My Final Thoughts:

Promises is a book full of twist’s and turn around every corner I adored it! I’m still in shock at how much I loved this book cause I thought I wouldn’t have! With that being said you need to add this book to your TBR! If you haven’t done so already  I also hope you enjoy it at as much as I  did can’t wait to read book 2 Betrayal in the trilogy it’s going to be amazing .
